Broomcorn stems for craft projects and broommaking

50g or 100g bundle. Approx. 25 or 50 stalks per bundle. Over 20cm.

Each round stalk can be halved lengthwise, doubling your material for plaiting onto handles. To plait, soak stems in warm water with a splash of vinegar for 3 hours until pliable, then weave in a traditional three-strand pattern, starting from the handle’s base. Work upwards, keeping tension even for a sturdy finish. Mexican broomcorn is prized for its flexibility and durability, perfect for both decorative and practical brooms. Small whisks need 4-6 stalks, whilst house brooms require 7-10. To split stems, carefully slice downward from one end using a sharp knife on a cutting board.
